Just last week U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan and U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius announced the formation of the Early Learning Interagency Policy Board.

These two federal departments are the major federal funders of early learning and child welfare programs. This new group will work to improve the quality of early learning programs and outcomes for young children; increase the coordination of research, technical assistance and data systems; and advance the effectiveness of the early learning workforce.

There are now initiatives at the federal, state, and local levels to assure that resources are aligned to promote quality programs that improve outcomes for young children. We are proud to support and be part of these efforts. We will continue working internally and externally to ensure that the resources of Children’s Friend are used effectively and efficiently to promote the well being and healthy development of Rhode Island’s most vulnerable children.
