Title: Bilingual Family Advocate
Reports to: Family Support Services Manager
Qualifications: Bachelor Degree in Social Work or a related field, or equivalent education and experience. Bi-lingual ability must be fluent in English and Spanish. Experience with at-risk families. Must have a valid driver’s license, required insurance liability limits, and a car to be used for work related tasks.
Duties:
- Provide telephone and face-to-face services to families including crisis intervention, advocacy, and referrals and linkages with community resources and agency programs.
- Develop, organize, and maintain a resource library of information and handouts, including an up-to-date list of community programs and resources.
- Design and implement informational workshops that are culturally competent and relevant to the needs of the families served by Children’s Friend.
- Act as a liason to all community agencies, including adult education services.
- Organize and maintain a community clothing closet to be utilized by families served by Children’s Friend.
- Coordinate and oversee activities and paperwork for drop-in center volunteers.
- Complete all evaluation paperwork within program guidelines. Maintain client records and complete all necessary documentation within established program time frames.
- Adhere to productivity requirements as established for the Family Support Center Advocates.
- Provided translation and interpretations services for Children’s Friend staff in regards to client-related issues.
- Contribute to the overall success and quality of all programs and services within Children’s Friend by working constructively and collaboratively with other staff members to address programmatic and agency-wide issues and needs. Participate in agency committees.
- Constructively utilize formal and peer supervision to evaluate and improve effectiveness in providing services to clients. This includes active participation in supervision, team meetings and agency meetings.
- Pursue professional development through professional reading and attending relevant workshops and conferences (including Children’s Friend’s core training program).
- Develop and maintain ongoing outreach strategies to inform families and the community of agency programs, services, and offered through Children’s Friend.
- Interact effectively and respectfully with others and particularly with individuals whose backgrounds and life experiences are different from one’s own.
