JOB DESCRIPTION

Title: Head Teacher

Reports To: Area Supervisor

Qualifications:  Bachelors degree or Masters degree in early childhood or special education; and/or certificate in early childhood education from RIDE. Ability to organize and plan activities, establish warm, supportive relationships and provide a wide variety of stimulating and developmentally appropriate experiences for children.  Reliable automobile, valid driver's license and auto liability insurance.  Must maintain CPR and first aid training. Must provide proof of a physical examination not more than two years old; results of a TB test indicating free from TB and for women under 35 years of age, proof of measles, mumps and rubella immunization or immunity, and be able to lift up to 40 lbs.  Must provide all required DCYF licensing forms within 30 days of hire.

Duties:

  1. Work with the Area Supervisor to implement a curriculum based on best practice, including all Head Start standards, childcare standards, state and federal regulations as applicable. Perform tasks necessary to maintain a high quality childcare facility.
  2. Coordinate and communicate on a regular basis with all staff and consultants providing services regarding the individual needs of each child.
  3. Ensure parent‑teacher conferences occur at least four times a year.
  4. Actively participate/co-facilitate all program meetings.
  5. Participate in the recruitment, hiring, training, supervision of staff.
  6. Ensure that all education child outcome, evaluation data and progress data is completed and entered into the MAP database.
  7. Constructively utilize formal and group supervision to teaching staff, including regular performance evaluations of staff performance, professional development and support.
  8. Responsible for integration of services for families in the classroom, home, center, and community.
  9. Be a member of an effective leadership team.
  10. Responsible for office duties (which may include monthly newsletter) and ensure that all classrooms are in ratio.
  11. Complete 30 hours of relevant training in child-related topics during the first year of employment, and 20 hours of ongoing professional development and training thereafter
  12. Assist in publicizing agency programs and educating others about the agency and its services.
  13. Provide leadership in ensuring that all individuals are treated respectfully and that diversity in backgrounds and life experiences is supported and valued throughout the agency.
  14. Pursue ongoing professional development through attending relevant workshops and conferences (including Children’s Friend’s core supervisory training program).
  15. Other duties as assigned.
