JOB DESCRIPTION
Title: Teacher Assistant - Level 3
Reports To: Lead or Associate Teacher
Qualifications: Hold an Associates degree in Early Childhood Education or currently enrolled in a Bachelors in Early Childhood degree program. Knowledge of health, safety and first aid. Ability to provide a wide variety of developmentally appropriate and stimulating activities with children. Must provide proof of a physical examination not more than two years old; results of a TB test indicating free from TB and for women under 35 years of age, proof of measles, mumps and rubella immunization or immunity, and be able to lift up to 40 lbs. Must provide all required DCYF licensing forms within 30 days of hire.
Duties:
- Work with the teacher to develop and implement a curriculum based on best practice standards.
- Responsible for implementation of DCYF childcare and Head Start regulations.
- Make daily observations of health of children, report any condition needing attention.
- Maintain progress notes on the emotional, physical, social and intellectual development of assigned children.
- Communicate on a regular basis with all Head Start and consulting staff regarding the individual needs of each child.
- Participate in four parent‑teacher conferences a year, preferably two in the home and two at school.
- Actively participate in agency and program meetings and committees.
- Make constructive use of individual and peer supervision.
- Responsible for integration of services for families in the classroom, home, center and community.
- Complete 30 hours of relevant training in child-related topics during the first year of employment, and 20 hours of professional development training per year thereafter.
- Contribute to the overall success and quality of the program and agency by working constructively and collaboratively with other staff members to address programmatic and agency-wide issues and needs.
- Assist in publicizing agency programs and educating others about the agency and its services.
- Interact effectively and respectfully with others and particularly with individuals whose backgrounds and life experiences are different from one’s own
- Pursue ongoing professional development through attending relevant workshops and conferences (including Children’s Friend’s core supervisory training program).
- Other duties as assigned.
