Congressman Cicilline, Mayor Taveras, First Lady Chafee and community leaders show their support at the 9th Annual Investing In Our Children Luncheon.October 18, 2011 - Children's Friend, a leading provider of child welfare, family support, mental health, and child development services, was proud to have Congressman David Cicilline, Providence Mayor Angel Taveras, First Lady Stephanie Chafee, leaders from the corporate and advocacy communities and supporters at the 9th Annual Investing In Our Children Luncheon. The event raised funds for the agency's innovative and effective programs that aid Rhode Island's most vulnerable children. "While this economy has taken its toll across the country, Rhode Islanders have been hit harder than most. This year, we are serving a record number of individuals - more than 30,000 people - an increase from 17,000 just three years ago." said David Caprio, President and Chief Executive Officer of Children's Friend. "Thanks to the generous support we are receiving today, we can continue to make a difference in children's lives. We are especially grateful that we can call Governor and First Lady Chafee, Congressman Cicilline and Mayor Taveras friends and thank them for all they do to make sure that kids in Rhode Island have access to the best start for a successful life." The Social Investment Topic for this year's luncheon was funding effective summer programs to provide vulnerable young children with quality education and fun learning experiences. Funds raised through the silent auction and raffle will benefit the Children's Friend summer program which launched last summer. The Washington Trust Company received the 2011 Friend of Children Award. David Caprio, President and Chief Executive Officer of Children's Friend presented the agency's new video, which highlights programs and documents how Children's Friend aids Rhode Island's most vulnerable children. The video was written and produced by Nancy LaChance of r.j. La Chance/Tin Can Alley.
