Adoption Support
For adopted children and their families:
Families who have adopted children often have unique needs
that require specialized, adoption sensitive services. The
Adoption Support Program at Children’s Friend provides
confidential support and counseling to adopted children
and their families. The primary goals of the program are to
promote permanent homes for the children, to increase parenting
skills, improve child behavior, and prevent adoption
disruptions.
The program serves any family with adopted children that
is experiencing a crisis. Some typical problems include
child behavioral problems, aggression, mental health problems,
family adjustment, school difficulties, attachment, and
parental stress. The children may be in the home at the time
of service or in an alternative placement. Services are also
available for families prior to adoption finalization.
Services include individual and family counseling, therapeutic groups for children and their parents, case management
and service linkage.
