Many of us have been following the recent news accounts of the death of a 2 year old boy in a neighboring state. A young innocent little boy was allegedly beaten to death by his own mother.

This incident has stirred deep emotions. I personally have experienced a sense of shock, sadness, disappointment, frustration, anger, and even a sense of failure.

This tragic loss of a young life reinforces the importance of our work. We must continue to do all that we can to support and protect at-risk children. Children are at risk from many different stressors including poverty, homelessness, sickness, disease, mental illness, domestic and community violence, and drug and alcohol abuse.

We are working diligently to protect children and strengthen families today. Our success will allow the children of today to grow and develop normally. Then when they become the parents of tomorrow they will have the knowledge, strengths, and supports to protect their own children from risks and stressors. That will be the ultimate outcome of success in our work.
