Early Head Start

Early Head Start is a unique early childhood program that works in partnership with parents to make sure young children have the best possible start in life.

How does it work?

Families participate in regularly scheduled home visits that support parents in their role as their children’s first teachers. The program also focuses on parents’ goals for their own education, job skills, and overall family needs. Additionally, parents receive health and nutrition information and services to ensure optimal growth for children and their families.

Weekly, from October to June, each family visits an early childhood center. After sharing an activity with their children, parents leave them in the care of our expert childhood educators in an area specially designed for infants and toddlers. While the children are in childcare, parents participate in a support group, which focuses on parenting skills and reducing stress.

Who is eligible?

  • Families living in Central Falls and South Providence
  • Pregnant woman and/or expectant fathers
  • Families with a child or children newborn to three years old
  • Families must meet income guidelines

Children with disabilities are welcomed and included in all aspects of Early Head Start. The staff works with parents and specialists to plan a program tailored to each child’s needs.
