Job Description
Title: Early Head Start Associate Teacher
Reports To: Educational Services Manager
Qualifications: Associate degree in early childhood education, CDA and 2 years, experience required. Ability to organize and plan activities, establish warm, supportive relationships and provide a wide variety of stimulating and developmentally appropriate experiences for children. Reliable automobile, valid driver's license and auto liability insurance. CPR and first aid training. Must provide proof of a physical examination not more than two years old; results of a TB test indicating free from TB and for women under 35 years of age, proof of measles, mumps and rubella immunization or immunity, and be able to lift up to 40 lbs. Must provide all required DCYF licensing forms within 30 days of hire.
Duties:
- Work with the Education Services Manager to develop and implement a curriculum based on best practice standards.
- Responsible for the implementation of program either by following DCYF standards for childcare regulations or Early Head Start education performance standards.
- Perform tasks necessary to maintain a high quality childcare facility. Ensuring compliance with all state and federal regulations and guidelines.
- Maintain progress notes on the emotional, physical, social and intellectual development of assigned children.
- Coordinate and communicate on a regular basis with program staff regarding the individual needs of each child.
- Hold parent-teacher conferences with parents when appropriate.
- Actively participate in program meetings.
- Participate in the recruitment, hiring and training of Assistant Teacher and Teacher Aides.
- Provide individual supervision of Assistant Teacher and Teacher Aides on a weekly basis.
- Make constructive use of individual and peer supervision on a weekly basis.
- Complete 30 hours of relevant training in child-related topics during the first year of employment, and 20 hours of ongoing professional development and training thereafter.
- Interact effectively and respectfully with others and particularly with individuals whose backgrounds and life experiences are different from one's own.
- Pursue ongoing professional development through attending relevant workshops and conferences (including Children's Friend's core supervisory training program).
- Other duties as assigned.
