Children’s Friend RECEIVES GRANT FROM TARGET September 23, 2011 — Children’s Friend announced today that the organization is a recipient of a $2,000 grant from Target. The funds will be used to aid the “Supporting Literacy in Children” program at Children’s Friend. This program helps children develop a love of reading through the creation of their own library and encourages parents to read to their young children. This grant is part of ongoing efforts by Target to strengthen families and communities throughout the country and this is the fifth year that Target has supported Children’s Friend. “Reading is a fundamental skill critical for school success, and with this funding we will be able to continue to strengthen our programming around child literacy,” said David Caprio, President and Chief Executive Officer of Children’s Friend. “We are honored that Target has once again chosen to support Children’s Friend.” The funding is used toward the required match of the Reading is Fundamental program at Children’s Friend. Through this program more than 5,900 books are distributed to 1,800 children participating in Children’s Friend programs. Reading is Fundamental is a federally funded program that prepares and motivates children to read by providing free books and literacy resources to children and families who need them most. |
