Summer has always been a time for me to live in the moment and enjoy the warmth of the season. Unfortunately the violence and human tragedies of last week have left me feeling so empty. Listening to all the news media coverage and watching social media explode is just so saddening and overwhelming. I know we can do so much better for each other and for our communities.
It is so difficult to see that this country is far more divided than we like to admit. Come visit one of our classrooms any given day and you will see diversity at its best, children of all colors and backgrounds learning and playing together. We really should take a lesson from them.
On Friday, our President and Chief Executive Officer, David Caprio, sent our staff a comforting and inspiring message, “One thing I very much believe in is the mission of this agency and the work that we do each and every day. Continuing to do the best job we possibly can is certainly part of the solution.”
David challenged us to share new ideas or projects that help to bring our community together to build trust and respect. I am asking you to do the same. We need to be better models for our children and it starts right here.
Volunteer in our classrooms, suggest a new community project, help us spread respect and trust. We are all in this together and our children’s future depend on our actions now.
