Many thanks to Dassault Systèmes for providing the supplies and creating infant and toddler kits for our families on Friday during their annual Day of Service. Volunteers worked to assemble and label the kits, a diaper bag, package of diapers and wipes, a change of clothes – onesies or pajamas, and a baby book or small toy – rattles, teething rings, etc. These kits help provide some basic necessities for our families.
Volunteers play such a critical role in helping to support our families. A fully-stocked and ready-to-go baby bag is essential for a foster family opening their home for a baby for an infant or toddler, sometimes with little advanced notice. Having the essentials on hand helps to ease the immediate transition and the family can quickly focus on care for the child.
Diapers and wipes can be also be a major hurdle for families in need. Family assistance programs, such as WIC or food stamps, do not cover the expense of diapers and wipes. Without diapers, babies cannot participate in early childhood education and child care programs. Without child care, parents cannot go to work. Projects like the baby kits help by filling in these gaps in services.
Infant and toddler kits are used by our programs throughout the year; however there is an even greater need as we enter the holiday season later this year. For many of the families we serve, there is no extra money to set aside for presents, warm clothing, or a new winter coat. If you would like to host a volunteer kit day at your company, school, community organization, etc., please contact me at 401-276-4306 or firstname.lastname@example.org. We are here to support your project.
And thanks again to our wonderful volunteer team at Dassault Systèmes for kicking off our holiday campaign for infant and toddler kits!
