Last week the United States Department of Health and Human Services announced that the State of Rhode Island, through the Rhode Island Department of Health, was awarded over $10.2 million dollars to support evidence based home visiting services. These services, called Family Visiting in Rhode Island, are targeted to support at risk families.
Congratulations to State leaders for winning this grant award, but also for understanding and acting on the need to invest in prevention and community based services. This is a win for young children and vulnerable families in our State as they will be supported together in their homes and in the community. It is important for our State to continue moving forward with investments in prevention. The more we can do to prevent problems and to keep kids and their families safely together, the better it will be for all of us.
