Many children across Rhode Island returned to school last week; and while that was happening Children’s Friend was getting ready for another year of Head Start classes. Whether it was in training to learn new ways of supporting children and their families, or setting up classrooms with all the right materials and supplies, our Head Start staff, and many others, were kept very busy these past two weeks.
As we have over the last several years we are opening new classrooms this year to ensure we can serve as many children as possible. In partnership with the Pawtucket School Department, four classrooms opened their doors today in two elementary schools. Partnering with the public schools is an important way for us to provide children with continuity in their educational experience. Many of the children who attend Head Start classes in these public schools will be able to easily make the transition to kindergarten at these very same schools.
I stopped by our Pawtucket classrooms before children arrived today, but you can see from these pictures they are going to be welcomed with open arms by Children’s Friend staff for a terrific experience this year!
Happy first day of school!
