Interfaith Vigil To Fight Poverty

Happy New Year and best wishes for a peaceful and fulfilling 2016. Thank you to everyone who helped make 2015 a successful year for the mission of Children’s Friend. Special thanks to all of you who helped us to ensure that we met our goal and served over 1,450 families in the Spirit of Giving Holiday Drive.

As we set our sights on 2016 one of the first events I will attend in the new year is the annual Interfaith Vigil to Fight Poverty at the RI State House at 3pm on Wednesday, January 6th. Click here for more information.

Poverty is closely tied to many of the struggles our children and families face. Over 98% of the children we work with live in families who have income below the federal poverty level, and across our state over 22% of all children are living in poverty.

One great way to improve the future for our children is to reduce the poverty rate in our state and in our nation. I look forward to joining with other advocates and community members on Wednesday to bring attention to the importance of reducing poverty, especially for our children.
