With the start of fall this week, we are officially one month out from our Investing in Our Children Luncheon scheduled for October 18, at the Providence Omni Hotel. For 182 years, Children’s Friend has placed the well-being of children first. Each fall, we ask you, the Children’s Friend community, to join us and 250+ of our friends —donors, corporate sponsors, community partners, and legislative representatives, as we gather to support families in need.
During the event each year, Children’s Friend honors partners who have been pivotal in supporting the agency’s mission. The 2016 Friend of Children Award will be presented to two important partners of the agency: Bryant University and PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP. For the past nine years, Children’s Friend has been invited to participate in PwC Accounting Careers Leadership Institute hosted by Bryant University. The Institute is a week-long, hands-on opportunity for Latino/a and African American high school juniors (rising seniors) to learn more about the accounting profession and about the key role accountants play in society. A culmination of their week is a team-building exercise where the students build bicycles for our families and host them for a celebration event on the last day, when high schoolers present the bikes to our children and families. The event is a highlight for our children and for the high schoolers attending the Institute.
This inspiring event is not simply a donation of bicycles… for our families, it illustrates the potential their children have in the future. The investment made by both Bryant University and PricewaterhouseCoopers to encourage and inspire students from diverse backgrounds paves the way for the children receiving bicycles today. In ten to fifteen years, our children could be attending the Leadership Institute themselves.
I hope to see you at this year’s Luncheon – 100% of the proceeds raised on October 18 will make the difference in a child’s life. Please go here to register today.
