Work with children in a classroom as a Teacher Assistant, where you’ll be an important part of the children’s early educational experience. Working with the lead/associate teacher, you’ll help implement a curriculum based on best practice standards to ensure that the classroom meets DCYF standards and Head Start education performance standards as well as other standards as appropriate.  This includes performing tasks necessary to maintain a high quality educational and childcare facility. You’ll make daily observations of health of children, report any condition needing attention. In addition, you’ll assist with the maintenance of progress notes, assessments, and screenings on the emotional, physical, social and intellectual development of classroom children.

Qualifications for Teacher Assistant:

  • Associate or Bachelor degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field such as child study, child psychology, early childhood special education elementary education, or nursing.
  • Ability to organize and plan activities, establish warm, supportive relationships and provide a wide variety of stimulating and developmentally appropriate experiences for children.
  • Basic computer skills required for data input and use of email.
  • Knowledge of health, safety and first aid. Must provide documentation showing proof of all medical clearance and immunization requirements, and be able to lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Must be able to meet all pre-employment hiring requirements.

Qualifications for Pre-Kindergarten Teacher Assistant:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education OR hold an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree AND have successfully completed a Teacher Assistant Training program approved by the RI Department of Elementary and Secondary Education; hold a RI Early Learning and Development Standard certificate relevant to this position OR an individual professional development plan for achieving this requirement within 12 months from date of employment.
  • Ability to organize and plan activities
  • Ability to establish warm, supportive relationships and provide a wide variety of stimulating and developmentally appropriate experiences for children.
  • Basic computer skills required for data input and use of email.
  • Must be able to meet all pre-employment hiring requirements.

This temporary assignment includes pro-rated vacation and sick time benefits (only). Create your own schedule based on the available shifts. Chose as many shifts as you like, totaling between 12 hours/week up to 37 hours/week. We’ll ask that you commit to the schedule, with no changes for an agreed upon time period (for example, one semester or one year).

For example:

I am interested in working 16 hour a week.

Friday 6:30 am- 10:30 am (4 hours)
