Maria Buccieri first became involved through a friend who recruited her to join the 5K Walk & Run committee. Maria notes, “While I was aware of Children’s Friend prior to that, I had no idea they were Rhode Island’s first child-focused non-profit and was really amazed by the organization and work they do with children in our state.”
Centreville Bank has been very generous in their support of the 5K Walk & Run over the past few years through sponsorships and employee volunteers. “Our employees visit multiple Children’s Friend classrooms annually and get the chance to read to students during Week of the Young Child, which is always a popular activity. I’m proud to say I work for an organization that’s truly committed to providing support to our communities in a meaningful way.”
When asked what inspired her to get involved, Maria responds, “The more I learned about Children’s Friend, the more I realized how many youths there are in Rhode Island who have nobody to advocate on their behalf. By supporting Children’s Friend, I feel as if I’m able to help be a small part of a larger solution for our state. It feels wonderful to help! Meeting with the kids and their families is always a heart-warming experience and provides a constant reminder of why the work that Children’s Friend is doing is so important.”
When asked what she would tell someone who is thinking about getting involved with Children’s Friend, Maria enthusiastically asks, “What are you waiting for? Go read to a child in the morning and get a hug; there’s no better way to start your day!”
