Whether you spent time with family and friends, got a jump start on your gift shopping, or took a the opportunity for some down time, on this long Thanksgiving weekend, one this is for sure-the holiday season is officially here!
In recent years, a new tradition has been established to kick off the charitable season, when many organizations focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving. On the Tuesday following Thanksgiving and the widely advertised shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday offers an opportunity to give back to your community.
After two days for getting deals, Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday is a day for giving back. In dozens of towns, cities, regions and states across this country and worldwide, people are embracing this day as an opportunity to raise money for local nonprofits, schools and arts organizations; run food and clothing drives; teach children about philanthropy; encourage acts of kindness; collaborate with their neighbors; and celebrate generosity.
Tomorrow, we will join thousands of nonprofit organizations worldwide and celebrate this global day of giving. Please join us!
You can make a difference in the life of a child this holiday season. Here are some ways to support Children’s Friend on #GivingTuesday and throughout this holiday season:
- Sponsor a Family in our Spirit of Giving Holiday Drive: Please sign up online at spiritofgivingdrive.org or call the Spirit of Giving Line at (401) 276-4346, and we will match you directly with a family.
- Make a Donation to the Holiday Drive: Monetary donations are used to support families that do not get sponsored. Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate all of the families we serve and your gifts help us to serve more families each year.
- Hold a Toy or Warm Clothing Drive in Your Community: Donate warm clothing, toys, or gift cards that can be used to support families that are not matched directly with sponsors.
- Volunteer: Volunteers are needed to support the Holiday Drive: sort gifts, check in gifts, and assist staff in a number of ways. Please call the Spirit of Giving Line at (401) 276-4346 for more details.
Thank you for all that you do for Rhode Island’s children and families in need.
