‘Tis the Season

Last Thursday evening, Children’s Friend officially kicked off the holiday season and the Spirit of Giving Holiday Drive at the Wild Colonial in Providence.  Over 60 people joined us to learn more about our Holiday Drive and support our children and families.  Thanks to all who joined us for this festive event – the toys, books, art supplies, and diapers collected will help to fill our Holiday Drive shopping room.  We’re off to a great start.

For many of the families we serve, there is no extra money to set aside for presents, warm clothing, or a new winter coat.   You can help children and their families this holiday with some basic necessities and holiday gifts.  There are so many ways to support children in need this year:

  • Sponsor a Family: Please sign up online at Spirit of Giving or call the Spirit of Giving Line at (401) 276-4346, and we will match you directly with a family.
  • Make a Donation to the Holiday Drive: Monetary donations are used to support families that do not get sponsored. Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate all of the families we serve and your gifts help us to serve more families each year.
  • Hold a Toy or Warm Clothing Drive in Your Community: Donate warm clothing, toys, or gift cards that can be used to support families that are not matched directly with sponsors.
  • Volunteer: Volunteers are needed to support the Holiday Drive: sort gifts, check in gifts, and assist staff in a number of ways. Volunteers are also needed at our gift wrapping kiosk at Providence Place. All proceeds benefit our Spirit of Giving Holiday Drive. Please call the Holiday Drive Hotline Line at (401) 276-4346 for more details.

However you choose to spread hope and joy this season, we thank you for all that you do for Rhode Island’s children and families in need.  Your support makes a great impact in the lives of our families, alleviating the holiday stresses for those who struggle, and helping to build happy family memories.
