On September 30th the United States Department of Health and Human Services issued updated regulations for child care in this country. The new regulations rightfully strengthen requirements relating to health and safety issues, push for higher quality services, allow investments to strengthen the early childhood workforce, and provide new information and support to parents.
Unfortunately, these new regulations are not funded. While they are based in best practice and what we know is best for kids, the new regulations do not include any new funding to implement them or enhance our investment in improving child care.
While we fully support the increased quality and healthier and safer environments for our kids, we need to continue the fight for the proper investment to make these regulations a reality for the kids and families who are served in child care and other early learning settings.
